Digital disruption (DD) is affecting all industries and I don’t believe there are any spared the, sometimes, catastrophic outcomes of the robotic invasion. One just needs to recall Kodak, the music industry and currently, the taxi industry to understand how innovation and the development of technology is impacting the way we do business. There are many other examples of where DD has eliminated tasks, redesigned job descriptions and even removed whole departments. Employment opportunities and business models are dramatically changing, so the question that should be asked, is what do I do today to future proof my business or career?

Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) enable mundane and tedious grunt work to be handed over to the machines, which allows for human creativity to blossom. Change is here whether you like it or not!

I think the time has come to realise that eliminating tasks is not the same as eliminating jobs. So, as humans it would be best to use what we have that separates us from the machines. So, what am I talking about? Emotional Intelligence (EI), human interaction and interpretation, decision making influenced by subjective elements (not just objective), communication, listening, problem solving and self-awareness in the cognitive process. We can think, create, brainstorm, collaborate, reason and multi-task, and believe it or not, we are able to adapt to change!
